IAAPA Expo Asia 2023
IAAPA Expo will return to Asia for the first time since 2019 with this month's event at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. IAAPA Expo Asia 2023 takes place from 13 – 16 June, with the trade show floor open from 14 – 16 June.
The event will include a wide range of insightful education sessions, alongside a trade show floor measuring over 6,500 square meters. There will also be special events and plenty of opportunities to make new connections and reconnect with peers from across the industry.
"The IAAPA team looks forward to welcoming attendees and exhibitors when we finally host IAAPA Expo Asia after a forced break," says June Ko, executive director and vice president of IAAPA Asia Pacific. "The industry is ready to once again gather in the Asia Pacific region to showcase their greatest innovations, hear from leading experts, and build relationships during one of IAAPA's signature events."
Some of the key topics being explored this year will be technology, innovations, and solutions; sustainability; and diversity. These themes will underpin the talks programme. Speakers will address topics like creating inclusive operations, operating a sustainable business, retail and merchandising, and cultivating the workforce of the future.
"Knowing we have been without an in-person IAAPA Expo Asia since 2019, we worked hard to select top industry veterans to best mark the return of this premier event," adds Ko. "Education is a main component for any IAAPA Expo and the Singapore program brings the best of our region together for impactful learning."
Day one features ticketed EDUTours to Jewel at Changi Airport and Universal Studios Singapore. The full-day IAAPA Safety Institute program will also run on this day.
Elsewhere, attendees can gain insights into creating inclusive operations and learn the value of IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) in the workplace. In a session called How to be a More Sustainable Water Park, team members from WhiteWater, a leading waterpark manufacturer, will give their top tips, alongside speakers from across the industry.
The Opening Ceremony marks the start of IAAPA Expo Asia 2023. This year, it will include an exclusive roundtable session. This will offer a platform for insightful conversation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on key topics in the sector.
The speakers will be Jim Pattison, Jr., chair of the IAAPA Board of Directors and president of Ripley's Entertainment; Andrew Bolstein, chair of the IAAPA Asia Pacific Advisory Committee; Jakob Wahl, IAAPA president and chief executive officer; and June Ko. Together, they will discuss emerging trends, global challenges, and innovative strategies that drive the industry's growth.

Following this, educational sessions continue throughout the day. Highlights include a discussion entitled Enhancing The Manufacturer / Operator Relationship During New Attraction Commissioning. This will include speakers from ProSlide Technology Inc., an industry leader in water ride manufacturing and design, and International Ride Training, LLC.
A Water Park Roundtable will feature insights from WhiteWater, as well as Qiddiya, Studio City Macau, Vana Nava Water Jungle and Water Technology Inc.
There will also be a sponsor spotlight. This will focus on DOF Robotics, a producer of dynamic simulation platforms, talking about The Impacts of IP Based Experiences.
In a session called Tips on Making a Creative Entertainment Show from Brass Ring Award winners, attendees will hear from Moment Factory, a multimedia entertainment studio specialising in the conception and production of immersive environments, alongside Ocean Park and Universal Studios Japan.
Later in the afternoon, Big Results, Limited Budgets: Get the Most from Your Spend will include speakers from FORREC, a leading entertainment design specialist, Legacy Entertainment, a leading theme park and resort design company, Entertainment + Culture Advisors (ECA), a global advisory firm that is focused on strategy, market analysis, feasibility and business planning for destination entertainment and cultural developments, and Puy du Fou Asia.

In the evening, the opening reception, a ticketed event, will be hosted by Universal Studios Singapore.
Day three kicks off with the ticketed leadership breakfast. The speaker for this year's event is industry veteran Tom Mehrmann, president and COO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, Pacific Rim.
Later in the morning, attendees will gain insights into Igniting Fandom – Delivering World-Class IP Experiences. There will be speakers from neon, a global experience entertainment company, Resorts World Sentosa, and WildBrain CPLG.

On Thursday 15, the inaugural CEO Talk, which is a ticketed Learning Lunch session, will bring together three industry leaders. This informal conversation will cover topics including career progression and how to maintain strategic focus while developing company culture.

Extreme Engineering, a leading adventure attractions company, is set to launch its new tower ride The Hooli-Hoop at the IAAPA Expo Asia 2023.
The brand-new Hooli-Hoop Tower Ride was named by Oliver Wilson, the 7-year-old grandson of Extreme Engineering's founder Jeff Wilson. It features three towers, each of which has a different ride path and thrill level. Riders will launch, drop, and spin down twisted steel columns from a height of 27 feet. To increase the intensity even further there is an optional spinning platform available.
Extreme Engineering also revealed its new Extreme Twist Tower attraction at Saudi Entertainment & Amusement (SEA) Expo last month.

Alongside Aardman, the award-winning UK studio, Katapult has announced that they will reveal a brand new themed attraction concept at the show, featuring the studio's much-loved characters. Last month, Katapult announced the completion of a new experience for The Lego Group and Merlin Entertainments. After a successful introduction at the Brussels location, the Lego Creative Club will become a brand-new space in all future Lego Discovery Centre openings. KCC Entertainment Design, a leading creator of themed environments, will reveal recently opened projects, including Terra Magma at Bobbejaanland and SprakX in Hasselt, both in Belgium.

Last month, the firm celebrated the opening of the first phase of Batavia PIK in Indonesia. Batavia PIK is the world's first overwater shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, and was designed and planned by Legacy Entertainment in partnership with Amantara (an ASG subsidiary).
This is the first collaboration between the two firms and is part of the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) mega-development from developers Agung Sedayu Group (ASG) and Salim Group. The second phase is expected to roll out later in 2023.

Some of the attractions that will be presented at the trade show are the SkyBlazer, a new attraction with a swinging gondola that will give riders the sensation of skydiving. The team will also showcase The Unicoaster, an interactive attraction that provides a unique and exciting ride experience where riders can control their vehicle by using a control stick.
Also new are The SkySpire an architecturally stunning structure where passengers can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views in climate-controlled gondolas during their ride to the top, and The Polercoaster, which re-orients the entire concept of a roller coaster by going vertical.

P&P Projects, a provider of turnkey design-build services for themed entertainment & leisure experiences, will also have a presence at the show.
Last year, P&P provided its turnkey design-build services for two Thea-award-winning attractions, Liseberg's Underlandet, as well as Jurassic World Adventure at Universal Studios Beijing.
For the Underlandet project, the firm helped to create a unique and original family dark ride. Working closely with both Liseberg and Quarry Fold Studios, P&P Projects developed the initial concept for the attraction into a schematic, detailed and technical design package. This provided a base from which all show sets, props, show action equipment, AV and special effects could be produced in the firm's workshops.
For Jurassic World Adventure, the team worked closely in collaboration with Universal Creative to transform the initial plan for the attraction into the final experience concept. The firm then extensively adapted the defined concept into a creatively and technically engineered package, followed by full-scale production of the show sets and theming elements in the attraction's queue and the ride itself.
Pico Play, a global leader in the planning, design, development and construction of world-class themed attractions and entertainment, will be exhibiting at IAAPA Expo Asia 2023.
Elsewhere in Singapore, the firm was chosen to create, design and install a unique indoor water experience for HomeTeamNS Water Park. HomeTeamNS is a new five-storey clubhouse for Home Team national servicemen and the public. This waterfront-themed clubhouse is home to an infinity pool and a water adventure centre and also features Singapore's longest indoor water slide.
The challenge for Pico Play was to create something new for guests that would both keep them entertained and allow them to work on their fitness. The team brought something new to this location with a totally individual, multi-disciplined set of wet and dry challenges. The course caters to an array of skill levels and features an engaging steampunk theme.
ProSlide Technology Inc. will demonstrate some of its latest projects and products during the trade show.

In March, ProSlide also celebrated the opening of Vikingløp RallyRACER, an eight-lane, fully-enclosed racing experience at Rulantica, Europa-Park's popular water park. This features eight long, curving tracks, on which riders compete in head-to-head races down the track, navigating shared RallyPOINTS and fully enclosed flume sections while experiencing exhilarating drops and turns along the way.

Last month, Sally Dark Rides shared more details about the creation of PortAventura World's Uncharted dark ride, which is set to open on 17 June. PortAventura has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to open the world's first ‘dark ride roller coaster’ inspired by the hit 2022 film Uncharted.
The park promises that the new €25 million attraction, created in collaboration with Intamin, will be a thrilling and immersive experience, with visitors searching for "one of the world's greatest treasures".
Simtec Systems, a leader in motion simulation, will also be present at the show, where attendees can find out about products such as the HEXaFLITEmini Mini Flying Theater and more.
Last year, Simtec Systems and Scruffy Dog Creative Group (SDCG) announced a new dark ride concept in collaboration with toy manufacturer Mattel. The collaboration will use Mattel's Fisher-Price IP, a US brand of educational toys and activities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers found around the world.
The narrative and concept for the dark ride have been developed by SDCG, who will also be relied on for the theming design and completion. A new trackless ride system will be supplied by Simtec, the first of its type by the manufacturer. The firm will also supply the ride's technology components and chassis.
Sunkid, a leading provider of attractions for the whole family, can be found at booth L1239 where the team will showcase its latest offerings.
Last year, the firm delivered a new tower attraction for Le Village des Automates, an outdoor amusement park in France that caters for all ages. Providing panoramic views from up to nine metres high, visitors can hoist their way up the lighthouse-inspired attractions, using an integrated rope pull feature. The towers rotate 360 degrees at the base, with 1 to 1.2 revolutions per minute, giving an ideal perspective of other attractions on offer.
Sunkid is also a manufacturer of next-generation passenger transport and a major supplier to ski resorts around the world. The firm recently announced the launch of Type N, a new conveyor belt product which sets a new standard in user transportation.

Vekoma Rides, the Dutch roller coaster specialist, will be talking about its latest projects and innovations, like Circuit Breaker. This is the first Tilt Coaster 2.0 experience and is designed to appeal to both adrenaline junkies and racing fans at Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

WhiteWater is celebrating a number of completed projects around the world this year, with many more developments underway. Projects across the firm's water park, water ride, and surf divisions will be opening during 2023.
Earlier this year, IAAPA announced a new global Hosted Buyer Program. The first program will run during IAAPA Expo Asia 2023.
The association will host new buyers from across the globe, enabling them to connect with exhibitors and IAAPA members during pre-arranged appointments. The exclusive Hoster Buyer Program aims to help companies to optimise their time and budgets as they network, learn about new trends and ideas, share experiences and discover new suppliers from around the world.
